AHP Announces New Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Advocates for Human Potential, Inc. (AHP) has announced its new Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Patricia (Pat) Tucker, M.B.A., M.A.. Ms. Tucker also serves as a senior program director out of AHP’s Chicago office.  

AHP has always focused on enhancing the lives of all populations, cultures, and people and with Ms. Tucker’s appointment is making a deeper commitment to strengthening DEI internally and throughout its national project work 

As she takes on official leadership of DEI, Ms. Tucker is looking for opportunities to guarantee that everyone at AHP feels welcomed and valued and has a voice. She is also delving into ways to help new and prospective staff know AHP is committed to DEI issues and to make discernible changes, including more diverse hiring and educating new hires on AHP’s active commitment to DEI. Ms. Tucker will also head AHP’s internal DEI committee. 

Ms. Tucker noted, “My role is to ensure we have inclusive leadership at AHP. We are a stronger company when we have diversity at the table, leaving no one out. I will ensure we are cognizant of any type of bias—conscious or unconscious—and find solutions to it.” 

Another goal of Ms. Tucker’s is to have AHP collaborate with other agencies that are doing similar DEI work and make DEI an even more prominent component of AHP’s consulting workAHP has been providing training around cultural humility, unconscious bias, cultural competency, and other DEI topics for many yearsHaving a dedicated DEI director and DEI resources will enhance AHP’s strengths, resources, knowledge, and ability to infuse DEI into project work and help partners and clients as they build on their DEI capabilities and commitments.  

“We are teaching companies about DEI and cultural humility, and we are practicing it,” said Ms. Tucker. AHP is committed to having a workplace of diversity, equity, and inclusion. 

Ms. Tucker is an experienced trainer and technical assistance (TA) provider and a nationally recognized leader in areas including supportive housing and community integration for people with disabilities. She provides TA and training to providers throughout the country on multiple subjects, including cultural competency and working with vulnerable, marginalized populations.

Ms. Tucker received her M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and her M.A. in industrial psychology from Roosevelt University.
