Jaime Garcia, M.P.A., is the director of government relations for Advocates for Human Potential (AHP). Mr. Garcia's professional career has focused on public policy and government relations at the federal, state, and local (county and city) levels. This includes providing leadership and oversight in developing and launching projects to positively influence relationships with policymakers and regulatory agencies. He bridges these relations and monitors the political environment that supports the work being performed by AHP in the areas of marketing, communications, and client relations.
Prior to AHP, Mr. Garcia worked for clients in business development focused on health and land-use issues, specifically, commercially underutilized or unused land and potential conversion to mixed-use or affordable housing development. He also worked for a national health care consulting firm to establish strategic goals and create marketing plans to promote business growth.
In addition to these roles, Mr. Garcia was regional vice president for a regional trade organization that represented hospitals and health systems, where he provided leadership in healthcare policy and advocacy on behalf of 93 member hospitals and health systems within Los Angeles County. Advocacy areas included behavioral health, emergency health and trauma, homelessness, managed care, power grid, solid waste, and workforce. This work constituted serving on various advisory committees and as a board member on a regional health information exchange.
Mr. Garcia also served as the director of public affairs at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center, where he was instrumental in developing and maintaining external relationships with businesses and community-based organizations. He also coordinated internal communications to more than 3,500 physicians and hospital employees. Other areas of responsibility included media, oversight of the medical center’s Community Health Needs Assessment, and strategic community benefit investments. He also led an active government relations program for federal, state, and local elected officials in Southeast Los Angeles. Mr. Garcia received his M.P.A. from California State University, Long Beach.
