Cheryl Wilcox is a senior program manager and tribal liaison at Advocates for Human Potential’s (AHP) Center for Technical Assistance. She has nearly 15 years' experience serving people with behavioral health conditions, justice involvement, and/or experiencing homelessness. Prior to joining AHP, she was the recovery in community manager and state opioid response recoveyr manager for Washington State Health Care Authority. She was also the tribal wellness grants manager for the Department of Social and Health Services/Health Care Authority in Lacey, Washington. Ms. Wilcox was active in the expansion of clubhouse services, and the State Plan Amendment for substance use disorder peer services in Washington. Before this, she was project director for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA’s) Access to Recovery grant and expanded the project scope to a program in the community. Based on the success of the project, the program was maintained by the state of Washington utilizing block grant funding. She also managed a SAMHSA/Department of Justice grant to expand recovery support services to individuals in drug court programs. The outcomes of the evaluation provided the data that supports recovery support services.
Ms. Wilcox is a certified peer counselor and recovery coach. She managed the Problem Gambling Program for the state of Washington, ensuring equitable services to Washington citizens struggling from the impact of gambling. She collaborated with federally recognized Tribes and urban Indian organizations to implement peer support to the services they provide. She has provided consultation on Indian Child Welfare, Tribal sovereignty, and Indian Nation Agreements. She is an enrolled member and Elder of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe and is very active in her Tribe’s culture. She lives in Washington and plans to stay active in supporting recovery in her state. Ms. Wilcox has a bachelor of science in business management from Western Governor’s University and is a Certified Peer Counselor and CCAR Recovery Coach.
