JULIA TRIPP

Program Associate
jtripp@ahpnet.com
Julia Tripp brings to AHP her understanding of how to engage chronically homeless and other challenged populations in programs designed to serve their interests. She is a creative, dynamic leader in the field of consumer-informed program development, with a special focus on persons with mental illness or substance abuse issues who are homeless. She has affected the way data is collected in the human service system by highlighting and defining the potential contribution of consumers to the development of the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), an initiative of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). She developed the curriculum on Consumer Involvement in HMIS, holding trainings in communities across the country on this topic. An accomplished trainer and facilitator, she has served as moderator, presenter, and keynote speaker for numerous conferences. At AHP, Ms. Tripp has worked on numerous federal, state, and local technical assistance contracts to assist various homeless populations. For example, for a teleconference sponsored by HUD, she is developing materials based on consumers’ testimony about “what works” in helping homeless people with disabilities get, keep and advance in jobs. She also is providing technical assistance regarding peer support to a program that supports formerly homeless veterans with co-occurring disorders. Ms. Tripp also serves as Constituent Coordinator for the Center for Social Policy in the John W. McCormack Graduate School of Policy Studies, University of Massachusetts (Boston). She is an HIV/AIDS educator; a graduate of the Georgia Mental Health Certified Peer Specialist Project (CPSP); a trainer, monitor and certification board member for the Massachusetts Certified Peer Specialist project; and the author/director of the “Bring America Home Theatre” Project. Ms. Tripp was honored as a 2002 Boston Neighborhood Fellow, a cash award given in recognition of “heroes behind the scene” in the Boston area.
