Laurie Curtis is the Project Director for the CMHS-funded Shared Decision-Making: Making Recovery Real in Mental Health, a new initiative which will design, produce, and disseminate shared-decision making technologies that can be implemented in a wide variety of mental health treatment settings. Ms. Curtis has worked nationally and internationally to improve the design, provision and outcomes of mental health care for adults with psychiatric disabilities. Before joining AHP, Ms. Curtis worked as a practitioner, manager, educator, evaluator, and consultant in the mental health field for more than 25 years, providing program and policy development, evaluation, curriculum design, staff training, case consultation, facilitation and consensus building, and technical writing. For 11 years, she was Director of Training and Program Development for a national technical assistance and research organization, the Center for Community Change through Housing and Support. She serves as a graduate faculty member at Southern New Hampshire University and was an associate with the Collaborative for Conflict Management in Mental Health of the Florida Mental Health Institute. She has written and taught academic curricula and professional development materials on a variety of topics for mental health professionals, consumers, managers, and others. Ms. Curtis also has developed instrumentation and conducted evaluations of traditional and consumer-operated services at the local, regional, state, and national levels. Her publications address recovery-oriented systems and best practices, staff competency, community support services, peer support and consumer-run services, alternatives to coercive treatment, consumers as staff, safety, and ethics/boundaries.
