TREATMENT IMPROVEMENT EXCHANGE (TIE)

TA and Logistical Support to Maintain the Treatment Improvement Exchange (TIE), Facilitate Meetings, and Develop Reports and Documents

The Treatment Improvement Exchange (TIE) is a resource sponsored by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) to exchange information with State and local alcohol and substance abuse agencies. Under this contract with CSAT, AHP maintained and managed the TIE Forum, an electronic means of communication between CSAT, State substance abuse agencies, grantees, and contractors. In addition, AHP maintained a consultant exchange, which provided access to a pool of experts in CSAT’s planning, financing, management, clinical, and population-specific initiatives.  These consultants provided on-site and off-site TA to State substance abuse offices and other member contractors.  AHP tracked the TA activities provided by entering data into a TA tracking system. The system sorted and organized the data into a variety of reports, enabling member contractors to report in a standard and uniform format.

AHP also planned, organized, and managed a series of medium and large meetings to deliver TA from national experts in support of the State Systems Development Program (SSDP) and in areas of need identified by the State substance abuse offices or by CSAT.  AHP provided logistical support for these meetings, and developed reports and documents to support the literature requirements of the SSDP. These documents were used by the States to strengthen their ability to plan, manage, and enhance their substance abuse treatment services and service systems.  Documents included technical reports, literature reviews, manuals, special reports, guidelines, treatment planning charts, and the TIE Communiqué, a newsletter usually incorporating comprehensive state-of-the-art information on a single specific topic.  One special issue of the TIE Communiqué, on the treatment of co-occurring disorders among people who are homeless, involved 11 experts and writers.
