THE
SUPPORTED HOUSING INITIATIVE

This study administered by the federal Center for Mental Health Services
(CMHS) proceeded in two phases. During Phase I, AHP conducted research
in three of 10 study sites that were part of a national, multi-site study
of supported housing for people with serious mental illnesses. Phase
I included a process evaluation that focused on the development of a
fidelity framework to help providers determine how well they adhere to
recognized supported housing principles. During Phase II, AHP conducted
research in two of six study sites. The study was intended to document
major differences and similarities among housing models and to determine
whether or not supported housing is more effective than a housing approach
that is based on a linear residential continuum. AHP staff have made
presentations on this study at conferences, national meetings, and state
and local meetings of mental health residential providers.
