SUBSTANCE
ABUSE PREVENTION

AHP helps the federal government, states, communities, and organizations
apply research-based, culturally appropriate strategies to prevent substance
abuse. Through technical assistance, training and education, social marketing,
and customized resource development, AHP helps concerned clients implement
well thought out, effective prevention programs. For example:
-
AHP senior staff helped create the National Center for the Advancement
of Prevention (NCAP), a project of the Center for Substance Abuse
Prevention to develop, synthesize, and apply science- and practice-based
prevention
knowledge.
-
For Providence, Rhode Island, AHP worked through the Mayor’s
Drug Council to provide technical assistance for youth development
programs, develop educational materials, and guide strategic
planning.
-
AHP guided the development of a strategic plan for Marlborough
Boys and Girls Clubs of Marlborough, Massachusetts, including
programming for substance abuse prevention that won financial
support from the
state.
