CREATING LASTING FAMILY CONNECTIONS EVALUATION

Family Connections for Substance Abuse Prevention Program for Youth and Families/Creating Lasting Family Connections

As part of a State Incentive Grant (SIG) from the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), AHP conducted an evaluation of a substance abuse prevention program serving Rhode Island youth, ages 12-17. The program, Creating Lasting Family Connections, focuses on developing positive parental influence and positive youth responses; increasing youths’ resiliency, responsibility, and independence; and enhancing parent-child communication skills. The program aims to serve 45 families per year for three years. Goals include: delayed onset of substance use and reduced substance use by participating youth; increased parental knowledge and appropriate beliefs; and increased rule setting by parents about substance abuse.
