EVIDENCE-BASED BEST PRACTICES IN RESPONDING TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASES: A GUIDE FOR PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICERS Evidence-Based Best Practices in Responding to Domestic Violence Cases: A Guide for Probation and Parole Officers AHP developed a manual for Missouri probation and parole officers regarding best practices for safeguarding victims of domestic violence and holding their abusers accountable. Commissioned by the Missouri Department of Corrections and funded by the Office on Violence Against Women of the Department of Justice, each section of the manual describes research findings and their implications for officers in the field, or in the courts where officers often advice judges on sentencing, or in the prisons where they advice parole boards. Chapters profile victims, perpetrators, discuss the role of alcohol and drug abuse, the use of firearms, protective orders, specialized domestic violence supervision, and the effectiveness of various practices throughout the criminal justice process from arrest and prosecution through sentencing, supervision and treatment.
