Ms. Wells is an accomplished senior writer/editor with more than 30 years of experience who is known for her ability to translate research findings into reports for the lay audience. For more than 20 years, she has researched, written, and edited documents about mental and substance use disorders and homelessness; her services frequently are requested by various SAMHSA divisions for specific projects. Currently, Ms. Wells is the principal speechwriter for CMHS Director A. Kathryn Power, M.Ed., and was tapped to help the Center develop a strategic forecast. Ms. Wells is the primary author of SAMHSA’s Federal Action Agenda in response to the final report of the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health and of SAMHSA’s Blueprint for Change to end chronic homelessness. She helped draft SAMHSA’s Report to Congress on co-occurring disorders and a guidebook for the CMHS National GAINS Center called Practical Advice on Jail Diversion. Ms. Wells has written newsletters on health and mental health care for people who are homeless, and she is the author of A Delicate Balance: Living Successfully with Chronic Illness (Perseus Books, 2000).
