HOUSING
AND HOMELESSNESS

The Housing Group at AHP helps the federal government, states, and nonprofit
organizations plan, develop, finance, and operate supportive housing
for people with mental illnesses, people who are homeless, and people
who have co-occurring disorders. Staff can:
-
Assess the political, social, legal, and economic environment
to plan for supportive housing
-
Develop strategies for policy and system change
-
Incorporate “housing first” principles in system design
and program operations
-
Develop transition plans to move individuals from institutions or
congregate settings to integrated, community housing
-
Incorporate employment services as a key element of the housing model
-
Integrate relevant laws (e.g., disability discrimination, health
care, criminal justice)
-
Design and implement research and evaluation plans
-
Create management information systems for housing providers
-
Address the needs of special populations (e.g., people with co-occurring
disorders, trauma survivors) in housing design and management
-
Develop program manuals and train staff in the use of best
practices
The Housing Group can create a complete housing plan from conception
to operation, or can help with any specific piece of a project.
