CO-OCCURRING
DISORDERS

The Co-Occurring Disorders Team at AHP helps the federal government,
states, and nonprofit organizations build effective systems of care for
people with co-occurring substance use and mental disorders. Staff can:

Assess the political, social, legal, and economic environment
to determine system readiness
-
Design and implement co-occurring disorders-related research and
evaluation plans
-
Develop a detailed, incremental system development plan
-
Provide a full range of consultation and technical assistance (e.g.,
strategic planning)
-
Train system planners and providers in evidence-based approaches
-
Incorporate the guiding principles of “no wrong door” and “expectation,
not exception” throughout system design and into all program
operations
-
Analyze and make recommendations regarding relevant laws, regulations,
and guidelines that may create barriers to effective systems change
-
Analyze and make recommendations about how to create or refine management
information systems
- Assess current funding streams and recommend changes to support
systems integration
